Middleboro and Lakeville head to the polls for primary elections
Middleboro and Lakeville residents along with voters across Massachusetts are already casting ballots in Sept. 1 primary contests. Votes may be cast by mail, early in-person or on election day. There are primary contests on both the Democratic and Republican sides. Voters enrolled in neither party may choose to vote in either.
Here’s a look at what’s on the ballots for Middleboro and Lakeville voters and how and where to vote:
Michael Minogue of South Hamilton and Brian Shortsleeve of Wellesley are seeking the Republican nomination for governor. The winner will face Democratic Gov. Maura Healey in November..
U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton of Salem will challenge incumbent Sen. Ed Markey for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. Markey has held the seat since 2013. The winner will face Republican nominee John Deaton in November.
In Middleboro, voters will choose between incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep Bill Keating and progressive challenger Craig Swallow of New Bedford for the U.S. House of Representatives. Keating has been in Congress since 2011.
In Lakeville, voters will choose between incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss and Jason Poulos of Sherborn for their U.S. Representative. Auchincloss has held the seat since 2021.
Lakeville will choose between two Republican nominees for state Senate: Gabriel “Boomer” Amaral of Fall River and Manny Silva of Somerset. The winner will face incumbent Democrat Michael Rodrigues of Fall River, who has remained in the state Senate since 2011.
In Middleboro, some voters will choose between incumbent Republican state Rep. John Gaskey (R-Carver) will face Carver Select Board Chair Mark Townsend (R-Carver) for the Republican nomination. The district only covers southern Middleboro up to the Nemasket River. The winner will face Sarah Hewins (D-Carver) in November.
Republican Plymouth County Commissioner Sandra Wright of Bridgewater has two Republican challengers: former County Commissioner Anthony O’Brien, Sr. of Pembroke, and Korey Welch of Rockland.

Voters using a mail-in ballot must submit their application by Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 5 p.m. The application can be completed online here.
Middleboro has three polling locations for primary voting on Sept. 1. Voters in Precinct 1 will vote at Oak Point Club House, 202 Oak Point Dr. Voters in Precincts 2, 3, 4 and 6 will vote at Middleborough High School, 71 E. Grove St. Voters in Precincts 5, 5A, 7 and 7A will vote at John T. Nichols, Jr. Middle School, 112 Tiger Dr.
Lakeville has one polling location for primary voting. Voters in all thre precincts will vote at the Loon Pond Lodge at Ted Williams Camp, 28 Precinct St.

When registered voters arrive at the polling location, they’ll get ballots for the party they’re registered with. Voters who aren’t registered with a party can choose which ballot they want to vote with.
Early voting in Middleboro will run from Saturday, Aug. 22 to Friday, Aug. 28. Polls will be open on Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Aug. 24 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Aug. 25 through Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Aug. 28 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Early voting will not be available on Sunday, Aug. 23. All Middleboro early voting will take place in the Select Board meeting room at Middleboro Town Hall, 10 Nickerson Ave.
Early voting in Lakeville will run from Saturday, Aug. 22 to Friday, Aug. 28. Polls will be open on Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Aug. 24 through Aug. 27 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Aug. 28 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Early voting will not be available on Sunday, Aug. 23. All Lakeville early voting will take place at the Lakeville Old Town Hall, 2 Precinct St.
