Margaret Irene (Darling) Abramson (“Peg”) of Middleboro, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the age of 99, just three months shy of her 100th birthday. 

Peg was born on April 13, 1924 and was the daughter of Hannah F. (Baker) Darling and Lester N.C. Darling, Sr. and was the last surviving sibling of the Darling clan, predeceased by Robert M. Darling of Lakeville, Lester N.C. Darling, Jr. of East Freetown, Peter B. Darling of East Freetown, Myrtle F. Erickson of Fredericksburg, Texas, Grace H. Potter of Clearwater, Florida, and Ruth S.Brady of East Freetown. 

When asked what she thought her greatest accomplishment was in her long and decorated life, Peg replied, “My family.” 

"Mom” is survived by her three children: Carl L. Abramson, and his wife Pat, of Painter, Virginia, June D. Abramson of Middleboro, and Glenn “Abe” E. Abramson, and his wife Carol, of Middleboro.  

“Grama” is survived by nine grandchildren: Wendy Lawrence of Middleboro, Krista Jennings, and her husband Peter, of Florida, Heidi Lawrence of Middleboro, Stacy Pala, and her husband Franco, of Rockland, Denise Schumitz, and her husband Matt, of Taunton, Robert R. Shurtleff, Jr., and his wife Susan, of Virginia, Rebecca Shurtleff, and her husband Scott, of Middleboro, Carla Devine, and her husband Kevin, of Taunton and Holly Langenfeld, and her husband Nick, of Rochester; eight great-grandchildren: Lenny and Cody Quindley, Noah Nunes,  Maria, Mauro and Paolo Pala, and Paige and Haylee Devine; and four great-great grandchildren: Cailynn, Abel, Shelby and Sienna.  

Peg is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends throughout the country.  

A graduate of the New Bedford High School class of 1943, Peg worked for 22 years at the Walker Company as the Chief Procurement Officer, Cost Accountant and Production Planner.  From there, she moved on to become the Vice President in charge of land acquisition for Commerce Park Corp.  

Believing one was never too old to learn, Peg attended selected classes at Connecticut University, University of Maine, and Bridgewater State College.  At the age of 70, she enrolled in night classes at the Middleboro High School to learn Spanish so she could enjoy the newly released Spanish channel on cable. 
 
Peg was civic-minded and was proud to have served on the Middleboro Planning Board, as Commissioner of the Middleboro Housing Authority, Trustee of St. Lukes Hospital in Middleboro, Chairman of the Board of Frat House (a half-way house for teens) and served several terms as either Treasurer or President of the Nemasket Tenant’s Association.  She was an active member of the Middleboro Elks and served as the Treasurer and Assets Manager for a time. 
 
Peg was an avid cook, gardener, reader, seeker of knowledge, card player, piano player, seamstress and last but not least, an enthusiastic and brilliant singer.  If you saw a woman small in stature, fierce in spirit, kind of heart, belting out a musical number, there is a good chance it was Peg. 

As per Peg's wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
