Love is in the air as Scouts visit nursing home residents

Feb 14, 2023

Two days before a holiday devoted to expressions of love, Girl Scout Troops 76200 and 77318 from Lakeville and Freetown demonstrated kindness and caring to help residents of New Bedford’s CareOne Nursing Home celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Troop members made more than 75 valentine cards for residents of the nursing home as part of a recent troop meeting and collected more than 75 pairs of non-slip socks to donate.

On Sunday, Feb. 12, several members of the troop visited Care One, indoors while wearing masks, to sing cheerful songs and distribute socks and valentines.

“As Girl Scouts, this is one of many ways we strive to make the world a  better place,’’ troop leader Michelle Hecht of Lakeville said. “Our scouts were able to use their skills to help bring joy to others.’’

Their efforts made a difference, said Jeffrey Govoni, administrator of CareOne New Bedford. “CareOne is thankful for the support from our surrounding community as it greatly enriches the lives of our residents,’’ he said.
