Laughter fills the air at The Alley Theatre

MIDDLEBORO — Residents were exposed to a different side of Henry B. Burkland Elementary School Vice Principal Greg Thomas at the “Boro of Laughs” comedy show at The Alley Theatre on Friday, Feb. 9.

“There is a school Greg and an out of school Greg,” said Thomas. “When I come here I drop ‘f-bombs’, I think people may be a little surprised.”

Thomas said that at work, most students probably don’t see him as a very funny person.

“I’m the disciplinarian,” said Thomas. “[Students] think of me as the guy who is going to give them detention.”

Thomas’ set featured a number of jokes about getting older and a story about how he and his wife fell in love.

Stand-up comedy has always been on Thomas’ bucket list. In 2022, he decided to go for it, “to at least say that I tried it.” Thomas attended Laugh University and was taught by comedian Tony V.

Thomas estimated that he knew about half of the audience personally. “It makes it fun because I know I will get some laughs, but it makes it difficult because when I go outside of Middleboro I don’t know if I am funny,” said Thomas.

Along with Thomas, four other comedians took the stage in front of the sold out crowd at The Alley Theatre: Bob Giannini, Barry Wilson, Brian Consoles and Mark Riley.

Riley, a former National Hockey League referee, served as the headlining performance for the event.

On multiple occasions, Riley took notice of the energetic Middleboro crowd. He even joked that if he were to ever get his own HBO special, he would want it filmed at The Alley Theatre.

The next comedy show at The Alley Theatre will be held on Friday, April 12.
