Lakeville Fire Department makes room for ducklings
LAKEVILLE — Lakeville firefighters are no strangers to water rescues.
But most victims usually are pulled from the water, not placed into it — then again, most victims don’t have webbed feet and bills.
When a group of ducklings got stuck in a storm drain Saturday May 17, Lakeville Fire Lt. Gregg Bradstreet and Firefighters Jerry Paul and Neal Severance responded to the scene.
With “careful teamwork,’’ Fire Chief Michael O’Brien reported, “the crew safely rescued the brood.’’
They didn’t rescue the young ones alone, O’Brien reports. The mother duck carefully watched the operation and “supervised,’’ the chief said.
With the brood safely rescued, the ducklings were released into a nearby stream, the lucky recipients of a rescue that succeeded swimmingly.
