Lakeville Fire Department celebrates 75 anniversary
LAKEVILLE — Fire Chief Mike O’Brien’s words said it all: “The trust we enjoy with the community, the trust we need to do our jobs, has been built on 75 years of service to our town.” He shared these words in a speech during the celebration of the Lakeville Fire Department’s 75 anniversary, held at Loon Pond Lodge on Saturday, June 15.
About 70 people came out for the occasion, the fire department reported.
“I thank everyone who has come before us now for their work and everyone who serves now for their work to move the department ahead and make it better,” he said. Also present for the occasion was State representative Norman Orrall, who voiced his appreciation for the department’s work. Orrall’s own family history is deeply connected to the Lakeville fire department, as his father and uncles were among the department’s first leaders, the fire department reported.
In attendance was Select Board member Lia Fabian, who received applause for her advocacy on behalf of the fire department’s needs. During her six years on the Select Board, the department has seen enhancements in staffing and equipment, including a new ladder truck, said the fire department.
