MIDDLEBORO — The Nichols Middle School student who died in a fire early Saturday has been identified as 12-year-old Jasmine Lane, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office has announced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but no foul play is suspected based on preliminary results, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

At about 2 a.m. Saturday, Middleboro Fire and Police were dispatched to 27 Pearl St. for a report of a structure fire with people trapped inside.

When first responders arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the first and second floors. Crews made an aggressive effort to keep flames from spreading to nearby buildings.

They attempted to access the home to rescue a female who was reportedly still inside, but they were unable to get inside the home due to heavy fire conditions.

A 61-year-old female was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital with serious burn injuries. A 59 year-old male, and a juvenile female, were both transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment.
