Healey, Diehl win in Middleboro
MIDDLEBORO — In an election noteworthy for few local contested races, Middleboro voters went to the polls Tuesday, Sept. 6 and cast ballots that mirrored the state results.
Maura Healey was the overwhelming favorite for Democratic candidate for governor, outpolling Sonia Chang-Diaz, 1669 to 217. Chang-Diaz had dropped out of the race but was still on the ballot.
Among Republicans, Geoff Diehl received 1,063 votes for Republican candidate for governor, nearly twice as many as challenger Chris Doughty, who received 565.
Kimberly Driscoll received 904 votes, topping the contenders for Democratic lieutenant governor. Eric Lesser received 586 votes, and Tami Gouveia was third with 294.
On the Republican side, lieutenant governor candidate Leah Allen received 868 votes to the 637 received by Leah Campanale.
In one of the night’s closest races, Andrea Joy Campbell topped the Democratic field for attorney general with 793 votes, 12 more than the 781 received by Shannon Liss-Riordan. Quentin Palfrey received 272 votes after having exited the race several weeks ago. The only Republican running for the position is James R. McMahon III.
As he did on the state level, William Galvin won big in the Democratic race for secretary of state, receiving 1,544 votes to the 338 for Tanisha Sullivan. Rayla Campbell is the only Republican candidate.
Diana DiZoglio won the Democratic race for auditor handily, outpolling Christopher Dempsey 1,118 to 639. Anthony Amore is the sole Republican contender.
In Middleboro, Jesse Brown defeated Republican challenger Dan Sullivan, 852-634 for the GOP spot in the Congressional race. Incumbent Bill Keating is the lone Democratic candidate.
In local races, Alex A. Bezanson topped Carlos A. F. Da Silva, 1,057 votes to 597 in the Democratic race for Plymouth County commissioner. Sandra M. Wright is the only Republican contender.
Republican Joseph Daniel McDonald, Jr. ran unopposed for Plymouth County sheriff. No Democrat is running.
Democrat Rahsaan Hall and Republican Timothy J. Cruz are running for the district attorney seat in Plymouth County. Each was the sole candidate for their respective parties.
