First recreational marijuana shop in Lakeville could open in 2027
LAKEVILLE — A recreational marijuana retail business hopes to open in Lakeville by the summer of 2027 that could potentially add $60,000 in revenue to the town each year.
Representatives for Twisted Growers Retail LLC presented their plans at a community outreach meeting Feb. 5 at their current growing and manufacturing site at 415 Millenium Drive. The company is looking to open a retail site at the nearby location of 8 Harding St. in Lakeville.
About six people attended the meeting, including Town Administrator Andrew Sukeforth and Select Board members Lorraine Carboni and Christopher Plonka.
The business will not be open overnight, said Phil Silverman, a partner in Vicente, a Boston-based law firm, who advises corporate start-ups in the adult-use marijuana industry.
“It takes a long time,’’ he said, before town and state approvals are granted.
He estimated that the business would open in no less than a year, with the summer of 2027 targeted as a reasonable launch date.
The retail establishment, which would fill about 1500 square feet, would be located within the town’s Marijuana Overlay District. Access would be available only to adults 21 and older with a valid, government-issued ID, according to materials discussed at the meeting.
Products will not feature images of humans, fruit, animals or cartoon characters, Silverman said, which could potentially appeal to children.
Silverman estimated the business would generate about $3 million in annual revenue. With a three percent tax going to the town, the town would receive an estimated $60,000 per year, although Silverman noted “it is hard to say’’ what the exact numbers would be.
He described the $60,000 figure as the “safest number to project.’’
The facility could create 10 to 12 jobs, most of them full-time, according to company materials.
