Events scheduled to warm winter at Lakeville Senior Center

LAKEVILLE — A series of events is scheduled to help brighten the gray days of winter at the Lakeville Senior Center,  1 Dear Crossing.

At noon on Tuesday, March 14, The Boston Tavern will be supplying seniors with a St. Patrick’s Day sit-down dinner. A corned beef and cabbage meal will be served at Loon Pond Lodge at Ted Williams Camp for $10 a person. The “Hollywood Bagpipers” will perform. Cash or checks payable to COA Gifts & Grants will be due through Feb. 14 for Lakeville residents. Out-of-town residents may sign up anytime between Feb. 15 and March 1. 

A special Valentine’s Day event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 17.  Participants may enjoy coffee, breakfast, games, and other Valentine’s Day surprises. 

The bimonthly meeting of Seniors and Law Enforcement Together will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6. To sign up for this community policing initiative, call 508-947-7224 and press 1.

Lakeville Fire Deputy Chief Pamela Garant will discuss winter safety tips immediately after the Seniors and Law Enforcement Together meeting. Light refreshments will be served for both programs. To sign up, call 508-947-7224 and press 1.

Brain Builders is back. This two-part series will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesdays Feb. 7 and 21. Light refreshments will be served; sign-ups are required. To sign up, call 508-947-7224 and press 1.

At Home Healthcare will be at the Lakeville COA on the second Thursday of every month to help with hearing issues. The next scheduled date is Thursday Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to noon.  Appointments are required. Call the Lakeville COA at 508-947-7224 and press 1.

Arts & Crafts with Amy will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15. The fee is $20 per person including all supplies and instruction. Call the office at 508-947-7224 and press 1 to reserve a spot.

Cozy up with three movies in the month of February. Watch “The Age of Adeline” on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m.;  watch “P.S. I Love You” on Tuesday, Feb.  14 at 10 a.m. and watch “Calendar Girls” on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m.

Focus on Lakeville will hold a roundtable discussion at 1 p.m. April 29 to discuss the history of Lakeville Hospital, which was once known as a state sanatorium and tuberculosis hospital. If you’re interested in sharing your knowledge, call the office at 508-947-7224 and press 1 to reserve a spot.

Weather alerts: All COA activities and programs will be cancelled in the event of the Freetown-Lakeville Public School’s cancellation. This includes Meals on Wheels, medical rides, congregate lunches, and transportation.  The Lakeville Council on Aging on 1 Dear Crossing will be opened by request-only for assistance to Lakeville residents whose homes are without heat or power.
