Rev. Kim Engle recently began serving as pastor for both North Congregational Church in Middleboro and Lakeville United Church of Christ.

The two congregations have been joined together since June 2023 and had been in search for a pastor together before Engle applied for the new position. 

Engle, a Plymouth native, was a member at the Church of the Pilgrimage in Plymouth, where she also began her path into ministry. She was accepted into the Boston University School of Theology where she received her masters of divinity degree and was recently ordained in the United Church of Christ. 

Engle’s position at both North Congregational Church and Lakeville United Church of Christ is her first in ministry. She previously served as camp program director at Amazing Grace, a director at the Hanover YMCA and also worked at Sing, Explore, Create, where she taught music to preschoolers and students with disabilities.

Church members have said that she brings a fresh perspective to the two historic churches. She hit the ground running in October and has not stopped.

She preached during Advent and will soon to be heading into Lent. She has also attended and participated in many events and fundraisers at both churches.

She has been running an online Bible study, has reached out to other clergy in the community, brings worship services monthly to a local nursing home, and has opened her doors to conversations with members in the two churches and strangers, alike. 

“It has been a blessing and an honor to serve and I’m grateful for the opportunity to minister to these yoked churches,’’ Engle said. “I believe that now more than ever people are looking for that third place to belong outside of work and home and we are reimagining church to fill this need. We are much more than a Sunday morning service and I invite people to come and be whoever they are, and wherever they are on life’s journey, because you are welcome here.”

The schedule on most Sundays is worship at Lakeville United Church of Christ at 9 a.m. followed by worship at North Congregational Church in Middleboro at 11 a.m. There are joint worship services periodically during the year and during summer months held at either church at 10 a.m.
