Chalk It Up Pavement Art Festival takes art to the sidewalk

MIDDLEBORO — Artists of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in the Chalk It Up Pavement Art Festival, hosted by The Heart in Art, on Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside Middleboro Town Hall at 10 Nickerson Ave. The rain date is Sunday, June 1.

Participants can reserve a sidewalk square to create chalk art of their choosing. Square sizes include 9 feet by 8.5 feet for $5 or 18 feet by 8.5 feet for $10. Each reservation includes a free pack of chalk. Artists may begin drawing as early as 8 a.m.

Registration is available online at www.theheartinart.org.

Cash prizes will be awarded in the following categories: top elementary artist, top middle school artist, top high school artist, top adult artist, top team best in show, and the Heart in Art award. Judging begins at 3:30 p.m., with awards presented shortly after.

In addition to the art, local vendors and artists will be on-site selling handmade and unique items throughout the day.

Proceeds from the event will help fund supplies and prizes for next year’s festival. Remaining funds will support scholarships for children and adults with disabilities to attend programs at The Heart in Art, a Middleboro-based nonprofit that offers inclusive access to visual arts, music, yoga, and healing programs.
