Bagpipe band to kick off St. Patrick’s Day pub crawl in Middleboro

Mar 11, 2024

MIDDLEBORO — The Old Colony Highlanders Pipe Band is very busy this time of year. Festivities span the month of March from St. Patrick’s day parades to Irish festivals. The group’s last event will be a St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl on March 17 that begins in Middleboro and ends in Marshfield.

The pub crawl will kick off in Middleboro, then head east through Carver and Plymouth and travel north through Pembroke to end in Marshfield.

Old Colony Highlanders Pipe Band will play a few tunes at each location along the route. There is no fee for the pub crawl but band merchandise will be available for purchase and donations are accepted.

The band will also hold a pub crawl on March 16, after performing at the Patriot Place Irish Festival from 12 to 2:15 p.m.

A schedule of locations and times for the pub crawls can be found on the band’s website, oldcolonyhighlanders.org, and the band’s social media on Facebook and Instagram.

The pub crawls will raise money for the Old Colony Highlanders Pipe Band to compete in the North American Pipe Band Championships this summer in Canada.

Funds will be used to cover the cost of instruments, uniforms, travel and more.

The band performs throughout the eastern Massachusetts region at a variety of private and municipal events, including parades and  graduation ceremonies, according to information provided by the group. The band has also played in concert with Celtic Women fiddler, Mairead Nesbitt. Old Colony Highlanders members hail from all over eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The band rehearses in Lakeville.

The band also competes throughout New England and New York and has been ranked at the top in their division of eastern United States pipe bands since the band first entered competition in the 2018, according to the group. Old Colony Highlanders just returned from Albany, NY where the band took first place in a mini band competition on Feb. 24.
