MIDDLEBORO — The Peter H. Peirce Homestead hosted a workshop where attendees crafted colonial period furniture on Saturday, July 12.

The homestead, located at 133 N. Main St., hosts a “Learn and Create” workshop series that features instructional events about colonial period arts and crafts. On Saturday, attendees at the workshop created a caned furniture piece.

A master conservator of furniture, Steve Metzler, instructed attendees through the multiple steps of caning furniture. With Metzler’s help, the art of caning was on full display and attendees crafted a footstool that used all of the methods and techniques Metzler shared.

The “Learn and Create” workshop series is partly funded by the Middleboro Local Cultural Council. To find more information about the workshop series, visit the Friends of the Middleboro Public Library website homepage.
