Rock band has ‘got the power’ at Middleboro town hall
MIDDLEBORO — A tripped power circuit didn't stop Plympton-based cover band Electric Junkyard from delivering an energizing performance outside the Middleboro Town Hall on Thursday, July 18.
It took three tries and a few extra electrical chords before the band filled the lawn with the sound of “I Want You to Want Me” by Cheap Trick.
The audience met the band with cheers, dancing and foot-tapping as they performed a mix of rock songs from the 70s through the early 2000s including songs by The Rolling Stones, Weezer and blink-182.
Eric Runyon works the band’s sound system and is married to keyboardist Karen Runyon. He said that this was Electric Junkyard’s first ever performance in front of an audience.
“They’re excited,” he said, before the show began.
According to Runyon, the lawn performance was a soft-launch for the seven-piece band into more live shows.
Middleboro resident Peg Holzemer said that the performance was nice.
“The way the world is, we need music,” she said.
The show is part of a series of concerts hosted by the Middleboro Friends, a nonprofit organization which uses event proceeds to fund community programs.
Brian Giovanni is a member of the Middleboro Select Board and of the Middleboro Friends. He said that the July 18 concert had a great turnout.
And there’s more to come— every Thursday in August there will be a show in front of the Middleboro Town Hall.
“There’s always music going on in Middleboro,” Giovanni said.
Electric Junkyard will play at Harper Lane Brewery in Middleboro on Saturday, July 27.
Upcoming shows will feature a surprise artist on August 1, the band Blacky Vinyl on Aug. 8, Billy Mulligan, Aug. 15, Dennis Ginn and Friends, Aug. 22 and The Shed Inspectors, Aug. 29.
