MIDDLEBORO – How many cranberries are in a gallon of juice? How many are in a can of cranberry sauce?

These were just some of the questions Miss Crantoberfest contestants were asked during the tenth annual Crantoberfest held on Saturday, Oct. 14.

This year, in addition to the annual title a Junior Miss Crantoberfest was also crowned. According to Tourism Committee Chair Nathan Demers, the addition of the junior title is a way to get more community members involved.

“It’s a really cool family event,” he said. “This is a celebration of the cranberry industry which is so important to our community.”

Past Miss Crantoberfest winners Isabel Perry and Molly Quinn crowned Alexis Deen as Miss Junior Crantoberfest and Grace Lothrop as Miss Crantoberfest 2023.

“I like to see people who know lots of things about cranberries because my family owns bogs,” said Isabel Perry. “It’s nice to see people come up and try their hand at some trivia questions.”

Perry said that there are 4,400 cranberries in a gallon of juice and 200 cranberries in a can of sauce.

Between shopping from local vendors and sampling food from food trucks, some Crantoberfest attendees also participated in a cranberry-themed bake off.

This year, Linda Gay came in first place in the bake off with a cranberry cheesecake.

Alpacas from Hidden Hollow Alpaca farm  led the annual costume parade held in front of Town Hall.

From Spiderman to Yogi Bear, recognizable characters marched and showed off their outfits for a candy prize.

Six-year-old Penelope Pompeo won the best overall costume category in the contest.

“It feels great,” said Pompeo who added that she planned on eating all of her candy when she got home.
