Edward S. Petravicz, 76
Verona Island, Maine __ Edward S. Petravicz, 76, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, was taken from this world and journeyed on to eternity on June 29, 2023. Ed was a USMC dedicated veteran, serving proudly for 2 years in Vietnam. Agent Orange was not his friend and eventually took his life.
Edward was born in Brockton, MA. Ed and his loving wife of 53 years, Chris, began their lifelong love for each other in their sophomore year of high school, 1962. While he lived in Lakeville, he graduated from Apponequet Regional High School.
Many different jobs kept Ed busy on Cape Cod: asphalt paving, hardware store business, commercial fishing and quahogging and civilian employee of the U.S. Coast Guard. At 54 years old, he attended Cape Cod Community College, graduating at the top of his class with an associate degree in Environment Technology.
During these years, he was a Charter Member of the Bourne Lions Club, Cubmaster of Cape Cod BSA Pack 44 and Scoutmaster of Troop 44 and 45, Little League Coach, and he attended the Cataumet United Methodist Church.
Ed loved to cook, whether it was for more than 100 on an Order of the Arrow BSA weekend (with the Polish Kitchen Dancers!), a church supper or breakfast or just for his family. After moving to Maine full time in 2001, he enjoyed gardening and mowing the grass on his Zero-turn! We always knew where he was when he would hit a rock!! He also became a stained-glass artist.
As his health declined, he lived life to the best of his ability. We had an incredible medical team, both civilian and VA guiding us through the difficult times. He had a great love for his family, especially his 6 grandchildren. Also, for his 3 therapy goats. He will be greatly missed and will live on in the hearts of many.
A Celebration of Ed’s Life will take place at the Bucksport United Methodist Church on August 19 at 1:00 pm, led by Pastor Peter Remick. The service will be streamed live on the BUMC Facebook page. A reception will follow at the church. Memorial donations can be made to the BUMC Capital Campaign P.O. Box 1727 Bucksport, Maine 04416 or the Bangor Vet Center 1615 Odlin Road Suite 3 Bangor, Maine 04401. Many thanks for the compassionate care of the staff at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home.
Semper Fi, Dear Beloved.
