Championship team players seek funds to put a ring on it
MIDDLEBORO -- They’ve got the state title.
Now members of the Middleboro High School championship team hope to bring the accomplishment full circle.
The team is seeing funds to purchase championship rings to commemorate the victory.
A fund-raising effort is being sponsored by the Middleboro All-sports Booster Association to ensure that players and coaches can purchase the rings.
By doing this, the boosters said in a fund-raising pitch, they can “make sure our students get proper recognition for this outstanding and historic accomplishment.’’
Members of the Middleboro School Committee made a donation to the effort at their July 9 meeting.
In a battle of local teams, the Sachems emerged victorious with a 2-1 victory June 13 over neighboring Apponequet to win the Division 3 baseball state championship.
Supporters hope to raise $12,000 for the purchase.
