No injuries reported after fire on Miller Street in Middleboro
MIDDLEBORO -- Middleboro Fire quickly extinguished a fire Thursday, Nov. 5 at a two-story home at 237 Miller St., Interim Fire Chief Dana Fontaine said.
No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported.
At approximately 7:23 p.m., firefighters responded to 237 Miller St. following a report of a fire on a back porch spreading up the house. Middleboro Police arrived first and reported the porch was fully engulfed.
When they arrived, firefighters found heavy fire coming from the back porch and rear of the home.
Crews quickly stretched two hose lines, one to the second floor and another to attack the fire from outside. Firefighters extinguished the bulk of the fire by approximately 7:40 p.m. Extensive overhaul and ventilation were required.
Because there are no fire hydrants in the area, tankers from the Carver and Wareham Fire departments were requested. Carver's tanker remained on standby, and Wareham's tanker was cleared before arriving due to the quick knockdown.
A Lakeville Fire engine assisted with firefighting. Bridgewater Fire covered the Middleboro station, and Coastal Ambulance stood by at the scene.
Middleboro Police assisted with traffic control.
The town's building inspector and a Middleboro Fire Prevention investigator also responded. The Plymouth County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation photographed the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“Crews worked quickly to get hose lines in place and knock down the fire,” Fontaine said. “They did a great job, especially given the lack of hydrants in the area. We are also grateful to our mutual aid departments for their assistance.”
