Rotary Club takes on outdoor spring cleaning

MIDDLEBORO Members of the Middleboro/Lakeville Rotary Club recently completed a cleanup and landscaping project at the John F. Glass Square “Island,” a traffic island the club has adopted for ongoing maintenance.

Volunteers spent several hours at the site, removing debris, planting flowers and spreading mulch as part of a seasonal revitalization effort.

“The cleanup was not just about aesthetics,” said club member Kevin Quackenbush. “It was about creating a space that residents could appreciate — a symbol of unity and the positive impact of collective action.”

The project is one of several community service activities organized by the Rotary Club throughout the year. The organization frequently supports local initiatives through volunteer work, with a focus on public spaces, events and partnerships with area organizations.

The club adopted the island several years ago and returns regularly to maintain the area. Quackenbush said the work is part of their mission to support community engagement through service.
