Richard E. Ready, 79

Richard E. Ready, 79, of Middleborough, Massachusetts, passed away on September 20, 2026.

He was born on July 15, 1947 in Boston, son of the late Richard James Ready and Thelma Marie (Owens) Ready.

He was also predeceased by his sister, Donna Scott.

Richard was the beloved husband of Maureen E. (Salter) Ready, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered around family, hard work, and devotion to those they loved. He was a devoted father to his children, Brian, Sean, and Daniel, and a proud grandfather to Tyler, Kyle, Rylie, Connor, Gavin, Aubree, Grayson, Griffin, Charli, and Jaxson. His family meant everything to him, and he was happiest when supporting his grandchildren at their sporting events and spending time with those he loved.

Richard dedicated 33 years of service to the United States Postal Service. He also proudly served for 33 years in the Army National Guard. He spent much of his military career with the 772nd Military Police Company in Taunton, Massachusetts, a unit that held a special place in his heart and remained a source of great pride throughout his life. Richard deployed with the 772nd during the Persian Gulf War in 1991, proudly serving his country alongside his fellow Soldiers. His commitment to his country, his career, and his family reflected the dependable and hardworking man he was throughout his life.

A devoted Boston sports fan, Richard enjoyed watching his favorite teams, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, reading, and watching historical movies. Richard will be remembered as a kind and generous man who was always willing to help others. Above all, he was a dedicated provider and the strength of his family—someone they could always count on. He taught those around him the importance of hard work, loyalty, service, and always being there for the people you love.

His love, guidance, and the many memories he created will remain in the hearts of his family forever. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Funeral from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 59 Peirce Street (corner of School Street) Middleborough, Wednesday (September 30, 2026) at 9 AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church of Saint Isidore Parish at 10 AM.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Military Honors will be rendered and a Committal Service will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 1:15 PM.
