Out with a bang: Middleboro celebrates new year with parade, fireworks
MIDDLEBORO — Get ready to make some noise.
In Middleboro, plans are underway to ensure 2024 will not end quietly.
A noise parade, bonfire and fireworks will be the star attractions as Middleboro celebrates its inaugural New Year's Eve Celebration Tuesday, Dec. 31.
The noise parade starts at 6 p.m. at the Peirce Playground entrance on the corner of Jackson and Lincoln streets.
Middleboro Police will escort the parade marchers. The Middleboro High School and Middle School bands will be providing music during the walk.
The noise parade will proceed down Jackson Street toward the Middleboro Public Library, turn right onto North Main Street, then right into the second driveway at the Memorial Early Childhood Center and around the back of the school toward the Peirce Playground.
The Friends of the Middleboro Public Library will sell noisemakers before the parade at the Peirce Playground for $1 each, cash only. People are also welcome to bring their own noisemakers.
The idea of this “old-fashioned walking parade’’ is to “make a lot of noise to celebrate the new year,’’ Town Manager James McGrail said.
After the parade, fireworks will light up the sky at 7 p.m., courtesy of Rexa, a company that will soon build its new headquarters in town, and Rockland Trust Bank.
Refreshments will be provided by Main Ingredient and the Italian Gem Café.
A bonfire will blaze throughout the event, which will be monitored by the Middleboro Fire Department. Burn barrels will also be fired up so people can make s’mores, McGrail said.
“I just want people to have fun and experience the community’’ spirit,’’ he said. “It’s a fun family event.’’
McGrail thanked sponsors for their support.
"I look forward to this event becoming a longstanding town tradition,’’ he said. “I can't wait to see everyone at Peirce Playground to get the party started."
