MIDDLEBORO — Summer was officially over for Middleboro students as they hopped out of cars or strolled across the elementary school parking lots on Wednesday, Sept. 4, touting backpacks that, in some cases, were larger than they were. 

It was the first day of school for kindergarten through twelfth graders in Middleboro, and the expressions on students' faces as they waited in the Mary K. Goode parking lot for the doors of the school to open reflected a mix of nerves and excitement. 

Fourth-grader Lucy St. Pierre said she was excited to meet her new teacher and get back to learning about her favorite subject: art. 

Her twin brother Lucas looked forward to social studies because he loves learning about how people lived hundreds of years ago. “I just like hearing what it was like,” he said through a toothy smile. 

At the start of his first day in fifth grade, Landon Willey felt ready to get back to school and to “make new friends.”

While second-grader Tristan Clarke couldn’t say what his favorite subject was, he could say one thing for sure: he was psyched for recess. 

For parents, going back to school means getting kids back into a routine and reuniting them with friends. 

Landon’s mother Brittaney Willey said she was “excited” for her son to go back to school and had glowing ratings for the Middleboro school system. 

Landon is her third child to attend Middleboro’s elementary schools.

“We have great teachers here at [Mary K. Goode]” she noted. “Middleboro is wonderful.”
