Middleboro Elks donate picnic tables to Soule Homestead
MIDDLEBORO — Two new picnic tables were delivered this week to the Soule Homestead Education Center, thanks to a donation from the Middleboro Elks Lodge and its bingo committee.
The donation was coordinated by Wally Glendye, an Honorary Life Member of the Elks and volunteer at the Homestead. After noticing the deteriorating condition of the previous picnic tables, Glendye proposed a solution.
“I said, why don’t I just ask around and see what we can do,” Glendye said. “Maybe we can get some for people to donate them, and it’s expensive because of the lumber costs now.”
The Elks Lodge board and bingo committee approved using funds raised through the Elk’s popular Monday night bingo for the project. Each table cost $200 in materials, with labor donated by Mike Rose of Assonet.
The new tables will serve children participating in the Homestead’s summer program, providing seating during outdoor activities and lunch breaks.
