Making friends, learning lessons: Lakeville students start school

LAKEVILLE __ New friends, new schools, the first day of classes brings a special kind of excitement, Lakeville youngsters shared prior to hearing the first bell of the year. 

School started Wednesday, Sept. 2 in Lakeville.

“I am most looking forward to seeing my friends at school. I’m also excited for the opportunity to take new classes,’’ said Reagan Jacome, who is entering sixth grade at Freetown Lakeville Middle School.

Her favorite summer activity was attending Girl Camp Wind In The Pines in Plymouth. “This year I attended with three of my closest friends which was really fun.’’

Changes are never easy, as incoming fourth grader Emma DesRoches notes. She said she is “most excited and a little scared about’’ entering fourth grade at a new building, George R Austin Intermediate School.

But, she said, she looks forward “to making new friends, seeing old friends and learning new things,.’’

Her favorite summer memory? “Meeting up with friends, and family going on the boat, swimming and making memories.’’ 

Friends make a difference, according to Lily Bernat, who is  entering fourth grade at George R Austin Intermediate School.

“This school year, I’m most looking forward to being in the same class as one of my best friends.’’

She had a sporty summer. “My favorite thing I did this summer was play in a bunch of softball tournaments with my Freelake Flash team.’’

Flynn Bernat, who is entering second grade at Assawompset  Elementary School, is ready for some football.  Or, more accurately, some more football.

“This school year, I’m most looking forward to playing football with my friends at recess,’’ he said.

He will be bringing on the skills. “My favorite things I did this summer [was] go to my first Patriots preseason game and play football in Coach John’s starter and junior flag football clinics.’’ 

Nora Hecht is entering sixth grade at Freetown Lakeville Middle School and is “excited  to go into a new school.’’

She had a memorable summer. “I was able to go on an amazing vacation to Europe with my family. My favorite part was going to Croatia and swimming in their blue lagoon.’’ 

Incoming George R Austin Intermediate School fourth grader Ariella Hecht will also be beginning a new year at a new school.

“I am most excited to go to a new school  and meet new friends from Freetown.’’ 

Her summer had an international flair. “This summer I was able to go on a Mediterranean cruise. Meeting people from other countries was so fun.’’

Kayliana Richard, who is entering sixth grade at Freetown Lakeville Middle School, is most looking forward to seeing her school friends. Her summer highlight was taking a trail ride on horseback in South Carolina.
