Local playwright’s work to be performed at Middleboro Elks

Sep 7, 2023

MIDDLEBORO — A stage reading of local playwright and author Joyce Keller’s Walsh’s new play, “The Fantastical Johnson’s Family Tree,’’ will be performed at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24 at the Middleboro Elks Hall, 24 High St.

This presentation is for mature audiences only.

The play received a 2023 playwriting award from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and is being produced by JW Productions in collaboration with Theatre One Productions. The play is directed by Peg Holzemer, read by a cast of  actors and will be followed by a question and answer session with the playwright and audience.

The work tells the story of the Johnson family at an ominous time, both in their own lives and in the world. The youngest member, Tony, is confronting the insanity of his life; his older sister, Bella, is on the verge of losing custody of her son to her ex-husband; and his oldest sister, Sonja, is about to lose her marriage.

They are all dealing with this against the backdrop of an impending global catastrophe.

Admission for this reading is free. A full bar is available. No reservations are required.

Theatre One will be collecting food donations for the Sacred Heart Food Pantry.
