Lakeville Town Meeting voters approve about $1 million in capital improvements
LAKEVILLE — Voters approved more than $1 million in capital improvements and signed off on the town’s 2026 budget at the June 9 Town Meeting.
Next year’s budget totals approximately $39 million, with about half — about $21 million — allocated to education. Public safety is the second-largest area of spending, receiving just over $5 million. The 2026 budget represents an increase of less than 3% over last year’s.
The largest portion of approved capital spending totaled $573,000. As part of that package, voters authorized $30,000 to upgrade the town’s website.
“Our website as it exists today is going to be downgraded in a few months because it's running a legacy type of program on it,” said Town Administrator Andrew Sukeforth.
The funds will be used to modernize the website, with plans to transition from a .org to a .gov domain. Sukeforth said the town plans to form a working group to gather feedback from residents and officials on improving the site’s usability.
Voters also approved $15,000 for a new roof on the office building at Ted Williams Camp and $100,000 for roadwork on Howland Road, Staples Shore Road and Colleen Drive over the next year.
Other items covered by the $573,000 include new vehicles for the police and fire departments, as well as sewer engineering and waste removal.
An additional $200,000 was approved for vehicle upgrades for the Public Works Department.
Voters also authorized $290,000 for improvements to the Lakeville Public Library, including a new roof and heating system controls.
“We generally get one quote up front to get a good faith estimate of what this would be. Once we get the money we then go out and do a formal invitation for bids,” Sukeforth said of the library project.
Finally, voters agreed to spend $10,000 on gravestone repairs at Thompson Hill Cemetery.
