Lakeville residents to contribute to updated plans for hospital site

Nov 22, 2023

LAKEVILLE – An assisted living facility and multi-family housing are options for the development of the Lakeville Hospital site that will be presented by Rhino Capital representatives on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

The community engagement meeting will be held at the Lakeville Public Library from 6 p.m to 7:30 p.m and will discuss the reimagined plans for the Lakeville Hospital property.

The previous proposal for the site _ the construction of two warehouses _ was soundly defeated by Special Town Meeting voters in November 2022.

Opponents of the plan worried about traffic and noise stemming from the project, as well as questioning whether allowing one warehouse in town would start a wave of warehouse development.

The Lakeville Select Board discussed the new possibilities, including affordable or age-restricted housing, during a meeting on Aug. 21.

During the Aug. 21 meeting, Town Administrator Ari Sky said that the potential ideas fall within zoning regulations for the location.

Lakeville Hospital has a long history in the town, where it has been located for more than 100 years. The structure opened in 1910 and closed in 1992. The buildings contain asbestos, as they were built before the United States restricted its use in 1989, which has led to still unresolved questions about clean-up.

“After much thought and consideration over the past 12 months, our team has reimagined our plans for the eventual development of the property,” wrote Michael Olson of Rhino Capital Advisors in a press release. “We plan to submit a master-planned residential development that includes multifamily housing, age-qualified/active-adult housing, and an assisted living facility.”

The meeting will provide the community an opportunity for residents to view the master plan for the site and provide input on the proposed design.

Community members are asked to reach out to Rhino Capital Advisors at 43MainSt@rhinocre.com with any questions.
