Lakeville man indicted in connection with fatal crash
LAKEVILLE — A Lakeville man was indicted Friday, Jan. 3 on charges relating to a 2024 fatal motor vehicle crash which he is accused of causing while driving under the influence, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
David DeLorenzo, 74, was indicted by a grand jury in Plymouth County Superior Court of charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating a motor vehicle, homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicating substance, four counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, Cruz said.
DeLorenzo was arraigned on charges related to this incident in Wareham District Court shortly after the crash and was held on $1,000 bail with conditions that he wear a GPS monitoring bracelet, abide by a curfew, remain alcohol-free with testing three times per day, and not drive while the case was pending.
On Jan. 19, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Lakeville Police received 911 calls for a report of a crash in the area of Main Street and Elliot Farm. Officers arrived on scene and found a four-vehicle crash involving a Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Camry, Audi S4 and a Chevrolet Silverado.
A passenger in the Camry, 75-year-old Richard Reed of Lakeville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Camry was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
DeLorenzo, identified as the driver of the Hyundai, was transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton following the crash. A blood draw indicated DeLorenzo was well over the legal limit for blood alcohol content and he was criminally charged by Lakeville Police upon his release, the District Attorney's Office stated.
The driver of the Audi was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford for medical treatment, while the driver of the Chevrolet was treated at the scene.
DeLorenzo’s Superior Court arraignment will be scheduled at a later date.
Assistant District Attorney John Bok is prosecuting this case, which was investigated by Lakeville Police with assistance from the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
