Lakeville Historical Commission looking for historical resources
LAKEVILLE — The Lakeville Historical Commission is on the hunt for Lakeville residents’ information regarding multiple historical projects.
The commission is searching for stories and information about a rocket-science-duo who would visit and fire rockets off in the Lakeville area. They are searching for information about scientists, Robert H. Goddard, who is considered the “father of American rocketry”, and his friend and fellow Clark University Professor Benjamin S. Merigold.
The commission stated in a newsletter that Merigold owned a cottage in the Clark Shore area on Long Pond, where their rocket experiments would take place.
In addition, the commission has a “bucket list” of topics they are working to research before 2028, the 175th anniversary of Lakeville’s founding.
“Each year our human resource group of long-time Lakeville residents decreases. We are hoping that someone in the community may have some insight, memories, or stories that they are willing to share,” the commission stated in a newsletter.
