Lakeville fire sees uptick in medical calls following weekend winter storm
LAKEVILLE — The Lakeville Fire Department is now focused on post-storm emergency calls after the weekend snowstorm hit the region Sunday.
Fire Chief Michael O’Brien said the department has responded to four slip-and-fall emergency calls on Monday, Jan. 26. On Sunday afternoon, the department responded to one accident on Main Street that involved one driver who was uninjured after crashing into a utility pole.
O’Brien said the Sunday crash was “not significant at all,” and the driver did not sustain injuries. No power outage issues occurred.
He said residents can expect town roads to be in very good condition today and through Tuesday morning, thanks to the plow trucks of the Department of Public Works and Mass DOT. Conditions will remain slippery, and drivers should remain vigilent.
“My biggest concern is the cleanup,” O’Brien said.
He said it's easy for people to overexert themselves while removing snow, and asks residents to take caution. He said the department responded to four different medical emergency calls on Monday, all from residents slipping and falling under slick outdoor conditions.
No other details on the crash or the slip-and-fall incidents have been released.
O’Brien said he is grateful for the lack of emergency calls during the storm, and attributes it to residents staying off of roadways during the dangerous travel conditions. As snow removal efforts continue, he asks residents to look out for others — especially senior residents.
“I would ask residents to take care of each other and help each other out, and also minimize exertion if people can,” O’Brien said.
