Janet Lee Phelps-Thomas, 69
It is with heavy hearts and immense sorrow that we announce the unexpected and sudden passing of Janet Lee Phelps-Thomas, age 69, cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and friend, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 2, 1956, to the late Tommy Lee Phelps and Margaret Jane Crawford (Cook). She was a proud daughter who grew up surrounded by the love and values of her family. She drew strength and guidance from her upbringing, carrying forward those very principles into her own journey through life. Janet’s legacy is woven through generations, her influence ever-present in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was marked by kindness, generosity, resilience, empathy, deep devotion to her loved ones, trustworthiness, and her love for animals and nature.
She was a proud graduate of Woodward High School (1974). Janet’s journey took her from Cincinnati, Ohio to Middleboro, Massachusetts in 1996. Janet is survived by her devoted husband Anthony “Tony” Thomas of Middleboro who just celebrated their 46th anniversary on September 7, a partner with whom she shared a life of love and faithful companionship. She was his everything, he always said “She was the best thing that ever happened to me”. Her beloved only child Jaimee McClure of Cincinnati, OH they always joked and said she hit perfection with her and didn’t want to be disappointed by another one that’s why she never had any more kids (her humor was like none other), and her cherished eldest grandson Jordan McClure of Middleboro, MA whom her world absolutely revolved around, he was her shining star. She also leaves behind her loved baby brother Philip Phelps (Christa) of Lancaster, OH. Janet was the proud and loving grandmother of Joseph McClure, Zabrina Hall, Jah’Sier Bush, and Jaedyn Bush, and treasured great-grandmother to Joseph McClure-Howard, and Jamayan McClure all of Cincinnati, OH.
Janet was such a bright light in this dark world, she never, ever met a stranger, she always had the gift to gab and an amazing way with words, she had the ability to speak exactly what was on her mind in a very respectful manner, she always had a remedy or holistic approach for what ailed you, sound advice and encouraging words. She was truly a “Jane of all trades” and had an accolade of ventures, services provided, skills, and knowledge under her belt. Among her life’s greatest treasures, was the time spent with her G’son. Janet loved telling her daughter and grandkids the stories from the past so that they knew where they came from and it was a way to keep our ancestors still with us. Janet was always telling people to be the best version of their authentic selves and pouring into them, she was always a glass half full kind of lady. One of her things to say was when asked: What’s your race? She always responded Human. “We all are unique human beings, individuals deserving of mercy, love, empathy, grace and forgiveness.” Janet’s grace and luminous, magical spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy is one of love, compassion, understanding, integrity, tons of joyful moments shared with others, and will live on in the family she created and nurtured.
Janet Lee you will be missed tremendously. In the end, all we have are the stories and people we leave behind and the lives we touch while we’re here. They say you die a second time when your story stops being told. Beautiful soul, we hope you know how many people’s lives you truly touched and that your story, memory, and spirit will live on for generations to come.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the support and friendship extended to Janet throughout her life and we welcome you to provide your thoughts, memories, stories, and pictures. Please continue to lift the family up during this time.
