MIDDLEBORO __ Fastina A. (Fernandes) Haynes, 99, of Middleboro, passed away on July 15, 2023 at the Life Care Center of Raynham. She was the wife of the late Clinton A. Haynes and the daughter of the late Manuel and Eugenia (Cardoza-Pires) Fernandes.
Fastina, or affectionately referred to as Tina by many throughout her life, was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her two daughters: Linda Proulx and her husband Richard of Middleboro; Annette Taylor and her husband Wil of Oklahoma. She is also survived by four granddaughters: Aja Kinna and her husband Gerard; Shahara Proulx-Tracy and her husband William; Aimee Proulx; and Miranda Taylor. She was also blessed to have four great-grandchildren: Attaquin, Dorothy, Josiah, and Elle.
She was born in Canton and lived in New Bedford and Carver before moving to Middleboro. Fastina was the first born of eight children and is survived by her two loving sisters, Isabel Graham and Maria Andrews, both of Wareham and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her familial roles, Fastina was proud to serve God and her country. She often proudly told stories of her role as a welder in the shipyard during World War II and how she dutifully did her part in the war effort. She was known for her kind and compassionate spirit, and she took her job as a Certified Nurse’s Aid throughout her life very seriously. She sincerely cared for her patients and worked as a CNA at Oak Hill Nursing Home in Middleboro, Longmeadow in Taunton, and ultimately, retired from the Hannah B.G. Shaw Home in Middleboro.
She loved her family deeply and took great joy from the time spent with them. She always enjoyed apple picking in the Fall and strawberry picking in the Spring with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to travel. She often looked back fondly on her and her husband’s annual trips to his various World War II reunions for the 352nd Air Borne that took place all over the country.
Fastina loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart and attended Faith Christian Center in Seekonk, MA. She always had a special place in her heart for the Navajo Missions (now called Four Corners Home for Children) in New Mexico, and in particular the Navajo children. She often volunteered and supported the organization throughout her life.
