County funds approved for Lakeville playground project

LAKEVILLE — The county has stepped in to fund a playground project that the town had planned to pay for, freeing up $170,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds for Lakeville.

Renovations for Gamache Playground at Ted Williams Camp were approved by Plymouth County for $170,000, according to Town Administrator Ari Sky during a Monday, March 13 Select Board meeting.

Sky added that two of the three bids for the project have come in under budget.

The town initially allocated $170,000 of its Rescue Plan Act grant from the federal government for renovations to the playground. The town can spend its own Rescue Plan Act funding at its discretion, but if it wants the county to fund a project, the town has to apply for county money.

Now that the county approved a grant from its Rescue Plan Act funds, the town may add the allocated $170,000 back into its Rescue Plan Act fund to use on a different project.
