ARPA money pays for drinking water at Clear Pond
LAKEVILLE — A water line providing access to drinking water will soon be installed at Clear Pond.
Plymouth County Commissioners presented a $454,930 check to the Lakeville Select Board at its meeting on Monday, Sept. 9.
This money was funded through the American Rescue Plan Act and will be used to pay for the installation of an off-road water line that will bring drinking water to Clear Pond park.
The American Rescue Plan Act was introduced to provide economic support to cities and towns as a result of the pandemic.
Plymouth County Commissioner Jared Valanzola presented the monetary award to the Select Board alongside state representative Norman Orrall.
Valanzola said Plymouth County is “thrilled to have this partnership with these communities.”
Orrall noted that it's “amazing” to see facilities that have been around since he was a kid getting an upgrade.
Interim Town Administrator Robert Nunes urged the board to consider using remaining American Rescue Plan Act funding to purchase ten new police cruiser laptops, before the deadline to use these funds on September 30.
The Select Board voted to use the money to purchase the laptops, which cost $3,600 a piece, pending verification that there were sufficient funds in the “revenue replacement” category of American Rescue Plan Act funding.
American Rescue Plan Act money has also funded town projects like an addition to the food pantry at the Lakeville Council on Aging, an update of the restrooms at the Old Town Hall and a replacement of the fire department’s self-contained breathing apparatus fill stations.
