Bees and garden beds: Soule Homestead to host events
MIDDLEBORO — Soule Homestead Education Center is hosting two upcoming events to reflect the spring planting and growing season.
An organic gardening workshop will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. April 26.
This program is geared towards beginners, but all skill levels are welcome to join. This participatory workshop will include classroom time learning organic strategies for small-scale gardens.
Topics to be discussed include planning a garden, seed selection, soil health, planting methods, succession planting, and upkeep. Participants will move outside (weather permitting) for the hands-on portion of the program.
Garden bed preparation and seeding information will also be included. Extended time will be given for participants to ask questions and share experiences. Wear shoes and clothing that could potentially get muddy.
Cost is $30 for adults, with a 15 percent discount for members.
An outdoor beekeeping workshop will be held at 10 a.m. May 3.
As a follow-up to the Intro to Beekeeping Workshop in February, onsite beekeeper Kevin O’Donnell of Kevin’s Honey Farm will explore the basics of Beekeeping, including an outdoor beehive demonstration, in this two-hour workshop. This program is geared towards beginners, but all skill levels are welcome to join. This workshop will be held in the Community Garden.
