Oak Point raises record amount of $72,500 for scholarships
MIDDLEBORO — The Oak Point Homeowners Scholarship Fund has designated a record $72,500 in scholarships and toolships to Middleboro students through money raised through yard sales and other fund-raisers, scholarship fund officers have reported.
Members of the class of 2025 will receive scholarships in the form of funding for higher education and “toolships’’ to help vocational students purchase the tools they need for their trades. These will be awarded to Middleboro students from Middleboro High School, Bristol Plymouth Regional Technical School and Bristol County Agricultural High School.
These awards will include 22 scholarships totaling $57,500 to Middleboro High students, three scholarships and five toolships totaling $14,000 to Bristol Plymouth Regional Technical students and $1,000 in a toolship for a graduate of Bristol County Agricultural High School. This is the first time that funds have been awarded to the agricultural school.
The fund has distributed nearly half a million dollars in scholarships since the homeowners’ first award to the Class of 2000. A total of 300 scholarships and toolships have been awarded since that time.
“We at Oak Point are proud Middleboro residents,’’ said John Burbage, president of the Oak Point Homeowners Scholarship Fund. “We are 55 and older and do our best to pay it forward. It isn’t about who we used to be, but who we are.’’
