Middleboro Market Day aims to “put a spotlight” on local businesses

MIDDLEBORO — The new version of “Krazy Days” is just around the corner.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, all sorts of vendors, selling local merchandise and food items will bring the sidewalks of Middleboro’s downtown to life during Middleboro Merchants Market Day.

Middleboro Market Day will run from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. The purpose of the event is to “put a spotlight on the businesses we have here,” said event organizer and owner of the store Rekindled Home Sandy Cronin.

Cronin noted the event will showcase not only downtown businesses, but businesses from all over town.

She said that another goal for the event is to “draw younger people downtown.”

Middleboro Market Day is put on by Middleboro Merchants, a coalition of local entrepreneurs.

This year the focus is on businesses that promote sustainability, Cronin said.

One such business that will be featured is Hydrophile Surfcraft, which sells surfboards made out of recycled materials.

Other businesses that will set up shop along the sidewalks of Middleboro’s downtown include Rekindled Home, a home furnishing store, Vintage Vault, which sells toys and collectibles, and Official Revibed, a shoe store. Approximately 26 vendors will participate, according to Cronin.

Cronin added that she hopes this event will entice more local business owners to join the coalition.

“I know we’re still missing people so we’re hoping with events like this [to] pull in more businesses from Middleboro,” she said.

Local food establishments like Coffee Milano and Italian Gem Cafe will also be serving up signature food items and Middleboro-based musicians Anne Cavanaugh and Billy Mulligan will provide tunes to add to the atmosphere.

Cavanaugh will play in Kramer Park from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. and Mulligan will follow from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Streets will not be closed to traffic however, per a decision from the Fire Department for safety reasons, Cronin said.

The town has been working in conjunction with Middleboro merchants to create a spotlight campaign featuring 33 local businesses, to “show what Middleboro has to offer,” noted Cronin.

These businesses are featured in the form of reels, or short videos, and can be accessed here.
