Karyn Jean Griffin, 59

Sep 20, 2024
Karyn Jean Griffin of Middleboro died on July 11, 2024.  She was 59.

Karyn's daughter, Jeanie Marie eloquently eulogized her mother:

My mom had many passions. Her greatest passion was for her children. She also loved gardening as she learned these traditional values from her Swedish parents Margit and Harry. She would grow sunflowers practically 6 feet tall and bask in the beautiful sun. She loved gypsy style clothing and wore favorites from her large collection of dresses almost daily. She loved gymnastics and dancing and dressing up with Christina and I. In those exotic costumes that she made for us, we would dance wildly around the apartment. It was magical!

She invested a lot of time in her unique style and never considered herself dressed without her make-up. People noticed her eclectic, free-spirit style and she was frequently compared to Stevie Nicks. She loved hearing that. We spent a lot of time exploring flee markets for trinkets and collectibles, creating our own styles. She taught me that fun was free if you were with the people you loved and she loved her family.

I remember when we picked flowers together from the garden, she made sure to include a few dried and less perfect flowers, explaining that the imperfect ones are also beautiful and deserve love, too. That always stuck with me. She taught me simple lessons, such as, " Never judge a book by its cover." And "Don't cry over spilt milk," and my favorite, "There is such a thing as 'good crazy'."

She went above and beyond to make memories with Christina and I. We enjoyed exploring back roads and haunted places. And who can forget her pork dinners with corn on the cob in season. She was a free spirit filled with so much love and light. She was so strong and unconditionally kind and never ever afraid to be herself. Who else would make a pool in the back of a pick-up truck for us on a hot summer day and do cartwheels and handstands on the beach.

My mom was fascinated by ghostly spirits and had a large collection of photographs with orbs, which she believed were spirits looking back at us. She taught me that my sisters, Nikki and Lilly, are always right here with me. And, that I can visit with them whenever I want, just by looking for their signs: butterflies, dragonflies, ladybugs and sunflowers. She is now with Nikki and Lilly frolicking on the beach and in the gardens and I will join them in loving spirit whenever I need to feel the magic.
