Deerfield Path fire leaves house ‘uninhabitable’
MIDDLEBORO – A fire during the morning of Monday, Oct. 23 has left a house on Deerfield Path “uninhabitable” according to Middleboro Fire Chief Owen Thompson.
“The building had a complete collapse,” Thompson said. “We've had to work with the DPW to bring in special equipment to help us remove debris.”
According to a Middleboro Fire Department press release, the house has been deemed a total loss and the resident is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
According to Thompson, there was only one occupant in the house who was able to evacuate before calling the fire department.
He said that the occupant was hospitalized for smoke inhalation but has since been released.
Thompson said that the department received calls regarding the flames at approximately 3 a.m. and was able to get the fire under control by approximately 4 a.m.
According to Thompson, the department is currently working with the DPW to clear the debris.
