Wild and wooly fun at animal program in Middleboro
MIDDLEBORO — It was a zoo out there.
From tortoises to a rarely observed cat to a cockroach that hisses, a menagerie of animals enchanted youngsters Tuesday, Aug. 1 at Battis Field.
Staff from Pine Meadow Farm in Mattapoisett entertained and educated those in attendance about the visiting animals, from the relatively familiar, such as goats, cows and alpacas, and rarities, including a Geoffroy’s cat, which is found in portions of South America.
Mackenzi DeMilo, 6, was a big fan of the cat because “it’s fuzzy.’’ Her sister, Daniella DeMilo, said she enjoyed the program and the chance to see animals that were new to her.
Adam Wojnarowski, 10, liked the chance to pet a bearded dragon, a docile lizard that people sometimes keep as pets. He described the experience as “fun’’ and “cool.’’
The program was sponsored by the Middleboro Public Library, the Middleboro Parks Department, the Middleboro Cultural Council, the Wilfred M. Silvia Library Trust and the Friends of the Middleboro Public Library.
