Middleboro animal shelter seeking volunteers to help spruce up, reach out

MIDDLEBORO — Animal Control Officer Kevin Racicot is seeking out volunteers for some time in May to help out at the Middleboro Animal Shelter, 50 Joe Ciaglo Way.

Racicot’s main concern is getting the shelter “back in order,”  with lots of cleaning and organizing to be done. As the only one at the shelter, he could use other sets of hands.

“I just want to make it known, not many people know about this shelter,” Racicot said. To make the shelter more identifiable, painting a sign would be greatly appreciated, he said. He suggested that any local artists or art students may be a good fit for this role, but the role is still open to anyone.

Some specific tasks would include disposal of leaves and hay, washing inside the cages (both inside and outside), ceiling work, and just overall tidying up. Racicot reiterated that volunteers are welcome any time as long as he is informed prior.

Racicot shared that they used to keep goats there, in the outside cages. This explains all the hay that would need to be removed.

“This could even be for high school community service purposes,” Racicot said. If kids or anyone for that matter, are required to complete a certain amount of volunteer hours, this could be the place for that, he said.

He also mentioned that he would like to add content to both their Facebook page and Petfinder account.

Eager volunteers could be a huge help with this as well, he said.
