Vigil to honor those lost to overdose
MIDDLEBORO — The public is invited to honor individuals lost to overdoses at Plymouth Area’s 2022 Overdose Vigil by Candlelight on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the lawn of Middleboro Town Hall.
Resources will be available starting at 6:15 p.m. and the ceremony will begin at 7 p.m.
This event is hosted by the Plymouth Area Prevention Collaborative: Carver Cares, Plymouth Youth Development Collaborative (PYDC), Middleboro Matters, and Wareham Connects.
In 2021, there were 2,234 confirmed opioid related overdose deaths in Massachusetts, collaborative members reported. The loss of these individuals is immeasurable to their loved ones and communities, they report.
In the event of inclement weather, the vigil will be held on the third floor of Middleboro Town Hall. If the rain date is needed, a public announcement will be made by noon Sept. 21 on the Facebook page, @PlymouthAreaPreventionCollaborative
Throughout the ceremony there will be resources and speakers. The event will conclude with a memorial slideshow.
Those that are grieving are encouraged to attend and find a safe space to remember loved ones. Those that are in recovery are welcome to share their strength and hope for the community. Those that are still struggling can find strength in others who will stand in solidarity and remind them that they are not alone. The general community is encouraged to honor those who have been lost and their loved ones.
