Tom and Jimmy’s to take over Peaceful Meadows site

Aug 27, 2022

MIDDLEBORO — Here’s the scoop: Middleboro has a new ice cream stand.

Or a familiar one, to be exact, but with a new name and look.

Tom and Jimmy’s Ice Cream will be moving into the site of the recently closed Peaceful Meadows on 109 W. Grove St.

The goal is to open Sept. 1, said Jim Gracia, co-owner of the business with Tom Hoye, both of whom lend their names to the establishment.

Tom and Jimmy’s also has locations in West Bridgewater and Taunton.

“It’s a very iconic place to take over,’’ he said. “We want to bring it back to life.’’

Peaceful Meadows has occupied the location since 1977 until the business recently closed. Prior to that, the site housed an A&W root beer stand.

The deal to take over the Middleboro location has been in the works since mid-May, Gracia said. Hiring has been completed, he noted, and most of the equipment has been purchased.

They will serve Gifford’s Ice Cream.

Like Peaceful Meadows, the new business will be open year-round.

This will be the 12-month-a-year Tom and Jimmy’s operation for the two men; their other locations are open seasonally. But since Peaceful Meadows withstood 45 winters since its 1977 opening, “we’re very confident that this one will be able to be open year-round.’’

Gracia said the support of his “great base of employees’’ allows the company to expand. He and his business partner are “always looking to expand our brand.’’ He is also pleased that all three sites will be a relatively short drive from each other, which he said will make it easier to shift staff around as needed.

“It’s a very iconic place to take over,’’ he said. “We want to bring it back to life.’’

The two men were raised in Taunton, and are familiar with the Peaceful Meadows brand, Gracia said.

“It’s a great location,’’ he said, with Cape Cod travelers often passing right by and easy highway access.

Gracia pointed out that the move has generated “a lot of buzz’’ and they look forward to serving the area.

“We couldn’t be more happy,’’ he said.

They are no strangers to iconic eateries. About 10 years ago, the two men bought Star Drive-In in Taunton, which they owned for about three years.

They are busy these days adding their classic pink and white colors to Peaceful Meadows. Gracia noted that “we’re excited to bring our own brand’’ to the location.

“We’re super excited,’’ Gracia said.
