Tiny Miss Massachusetts Earth helps clean up Middleboro

Nov 24, 2023

MIDDLEBORO – Rather than scrounging for a Black Friday deal, Middleboro children spent the day picking up trash in order to win prizes.

The Friday, Nov. 24 event was organized by Middleboro resident and 2023 Tiny Miss Massachusetts Earth, Gabriella Smith, who needed to create a community event as part of her bid to win the Tiny Miss Earth national title.

“We tried to make it fun for the kids,” said Gabriella’s mother, Heather Smith. The children who collected trash at the event could win prizes like “weirdest item found” or “most unique item found,” she said.

“We wanted to make it a positive experience so kids do it again.”

Gabriella Smith will be competing in Orlando for the national Tiny Miss Earth title between Dec. 29-31.

Lee Moua, a parent who participated in the cleanup, said that his children enjoyed the event.

“It’s the first time that our kids are fighting to pick up trash,” he said.
