Three contenders for two spots on Lakeville select board

Mar 3, 2025

LAKEVILLE — Lakeville will see at least one new face on the select board when the votes are tallied after the April 7 elections.

Incumbent Brynna Donahue will not be running for re-election. She said she is unsure whether she will be staying in Lakeville. If she does, she will consider running again next year, she said.

Two seats are available. The contenders are Evagelia Fabian, the incumbent, and newcomers Christopher Plonka and Paul Hunt.

One seat is available on the Board of Health. Incumbent Robert J. Poillucci will face newcomer Ann Marie Wronski.

Those are the only contested races.

Running unopposed are:

John LeBlanc, assessor; Nancy Johnson-LaFave, library trustee; Michele MacEachern, Planning Board; Lawrence Kosant, Finance Committee; Deborah Kranefuss, three-year term and Donald Bissonnette, one-year term, Cemetery Commission; Lillian Drane, Town Clerk; and Melinda Marie Richards, Lakeville representative for the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School Committee.

Richards will replace John Burke, the current committee chair, who is not seeking re-election. He said that external issues interfered with the focus on education.

“This past year has been the biggest challenge of my adult life,’’ he said. “I sought this position as a way to further help the kids and families in the district. I have spent countless hours on (Freedom of Information Act) requests, complaints (both internal and external), legal discussions, and overall negativity, and very little of it was to benefit kids.’’

He said his ‘’skill set and time would be better suited in a different role. I always will value and respect the School Committee and their role in public education.  I am thankful for the opportunity and hope I made a positive contribution to the district.’’
