‘It’s a Local Thing’

True Grit Art Gallery, 38 Center St., Middleboro, will host an opening reception for “It's A Local Thing,’’ a solo exhibit of artworks created by Middleboro artist L.E. (Lori) Ashley, from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. This event is free and open to the public. Complimentary adult refreshments will be served. The exhibit will run through Oct. 29. Regular gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Yard sale benefits scholars 

The Oak Point Homeowners Scholarship Association will hold its Fabulous Fall Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, in the Oak Point Clubhouse, 200 Oak Point Drive. The event raises money for scholarships for Middleboro residents. Residents of the 55+ community have donated over $300,000 in scholarship aid over the past 20 years to students graduating from Middleborough High School and Bristol Plymouth Technical School.

Furniture, electronics, tools, sporting goods, toys, holiday decorations, home décor, jewelry, glassware and other items will be up for sale at bargain prices. Other features include a 50/50 cash raffle, lottery board, and gift cards from local businesses and restaurants.

Arts & Musical Festival 

The Lakeville Arts Council will sponsor the 17th annual Lakeville Arts & Music Festival on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at routes 105 and 18, Lakeville. 

The festival will offer culture, juried crafts, food, live musical entertainment and artistic talents. Entertainers will include Sophia Crippin who performs 80’s rock;  Last Time I Heard You, a soul-inspired band and the Old Colony Highlanders Bagpipe Band. Children’s entertainment will include Ed the Magician and Mr. Vinny The Bubble Guy. The Lakeville Lions Club will offer s’mores and Art On The Spot will provide face painting. Fifty juried artisans will sell handmade items. 

Sunday, Oct. 2 

Scare up a costume and view classic cars 

The Cruisin New England Spooktacular Cruise n Classic Car Show will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2 at the Middleboro 4H Fairgrounds, 183 Thompson St., Middleboro. The day will feature theme-decorated vehicles, a Monster Mash dance and costume awards, decorated cake and pumpkin awards. Cost is $20 for vehicles, $7 for spectators and $3 for children. 

Get a massage

A free session of chair massage will be available at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Lakeville Council on Aging, 1 Dear Crossing.

Chair massage is said to reduce stress, improve circulation and promote relaxation. 

Space is limited and the program is available only to Lakeville seniors. Sign-up is required in the office or by calling (508) 947-7224.
