Theft of dirt bikes in Lakeville leads to arrest
LAKEVILLE — A New Bedford man was arrested and charged with breaking and entering and larceny over $2,000 after he allegedly broke into a Lakeville garage and stole two motorized dirt bikes, Lakeville Police Chief Matthew Perkins said.
Aidan Amaral, 18, was arrested after police responded to a 911 call at 4:16 a.m. Saturday that two suspects were breaking into a garage on County Street, police said.
The suspects stole two motorized dirt bikes from the garage and fled from the house, police said.
One of the dirt bikes was equipped with an air tag, which allowed officers to track and recover the stolen property at a home on Greenbrier Drive in New Bedford, police said.
After a subsequent investigation, police arrested Amaral at the house. Lakeville Police Officer Jason Orlando made the arrest, assisted by Sgt. Shawn Robert.
The investigation into the second suspect remains active and ongoing, police said.
