Theatre One seeks play submissions by March 1

Jan 23, 2023

MIDDLEBORO — Starting Feb 1 through March 1, Theatre One in Middleboro is calling for submissions of 10 Minute Contemporary New Plays from Massachusetts and Rhode Island playwrights.

Theatre One’s goal, through the Slice of Life New Works Festival, is for playwrights to be heard and encouraged. The festival is supported in part by the Middleboro Cultural Council and the Lakeville Arts Council,

“There is no theater without playwrights,” notes Artistic Director Peg Saurman Holzemer.

The winning playwright, voted on by the audience, will receive Theatre One’s Richard Pacheco Playwrighting Award of $100.

The festival will be performed Saturday March 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday March 26 at 2 p.m. at the Mitchell Memorial Club, 29 Elm St, Middleboro.

Organizers request one submission, no monologues. The cast should range in size from two to six with an age range from 20s to 70s. There is no entry fee.

The final date of submission is March 1. Submissions should include all contact information, along with a brief synopsis of the play and information about the playwright.

No hard copies will be accepted. Print of all scripts must be submitted in pdf format or as Word documents with a 14-point font size.

Plays must be exactly 10 minutes. The plays selected will be performed script in hand.

Playwrights will be notified if their work is selected by March 6 and, if selected, are welcome to attend at no charge.
