CARVER – As the Sachems ended their last game of the season against Carver with a 56-0 blowout, the team had a lot to be thankful for looking back on their season.

“I’m thankful for it all, honestly,” Senior Captain Nate Goodine said. Goodine had been moved from wide receiver to quarterback part way through the season

Goodine added he was specifically thankful for “getting the opportunity to come in and play quarterback and turn the season around, and [for] playing with all my best friends and with people I love.”

Carver’s football team had an 8-0 regular season record heading into the playoffs and is scheduled to play in the Division 8 State Championship game against West Boylston on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Both Carver and Middleboro ultimately didn’t play their starting lineups for the entirety of the game, and Middleboro made the decision to play every kid on the team in the Thanksgiving game.

“We got every kid in,” Middleboro Head Coach Patrick Kingman said.

Spectators from Middleboro made the trip out to Carver to cheer on the Sachems during the Thanksgiving game.

Middle school football player Hunter Kendrick said it was fun watching the Sachems rack up points against Carver, adding he wanted to play for the high school team in the future.

Kingman said Middleboro’s prolific offense against Carver was a result of having “good players.”

“We were just trying to do what we do and we got into the end zone,” Kingman said.

After the game, the Sachems received a trophy and Middleboro players stayed on the field and savored the moment of their last game.

“They’re great kids,” Kingman said. “They bust their tail every single day for a guy who screams and yells.”
